The world of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" is a cleverly-conceived one, the design of the film is engaging on all levels, and the voice cast is great. It's the story that fails to engage beyond the glittering surface.
Even with new cooks in the kitchen, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 is a completely delicious dish, as it adds a handful of great new ingredients to a familiar recipe.
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs is a cleverly written and illustrated story by Judi and Ronald Barrett, respectively. Cloudy has been recognized as a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Book of the Year and is one of our personal favorites here at Where the Wild Things Read. The story takes place in the small town of Chewandswallow where instead of rain, wind, or snow, they get a different kind of weather that falls from the sky three times a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner! The downside of living in Chewandswallow is that you don’t necessarily get what you want to eat all the time. The town may experience a storm of hamburgers and a snowfall of mashed potatoes! The story takes kids though the lives of those in Chewandswallow when things take a turn for the worse. The portions of food falling from the sky get bigger and bigger, and fall faster and faster until those in the town fear for their lives. The townspeople end up devising a witty plan in order to save themselves from the dangerous weather.
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs skillfully blends entertaining storytelling and detailed illustrations to depict how weather can affect people’s lives and environments. This book can be used as a cheerful and funny introduction to a weather unit for younger children. It also shows how working together can solve some very big problems!
