The Pink Lady and Lassen Creek (Rainbow) Mines will remain open to obsidian collection. Free Use Certifications are available at all Modoc National Forest offices as well as the Davis Creek Mercantile. Free Use and commercial contracts will be offered through Oct. 31. No Free Use or contracts will be issued for Nov. 1 through May 1 to allow for mine inspections. The certifications and contracts will be available again starting May 1 for all four mines.

The Davis Creek Mercantile in Davis Creek provides maps and permits to the mines, free of charge. Although four-wheel-drive vehicles are not needed, high clearance vehicles are suggested.
