  • The Structural Engineering and Mechanics (SEM) Program conducts multidisciplinary research to improve the safety and performance of the world's infrastructure, develop sustainable and green building technology, and analyze the mechanical behavior of solids. Our research consists of experiments conducted in the and in the field, and computational and analytic work conducted with the aid of in-house computational facilities. Computational resources include state-of-the-art software, multi-processor shared-access workstations and access to the 608 processor "Cyclops" cluster computer environment. Experimental testing of large-scale structural elements, on-site instrumentation, small-component testing, and materials research is available.

    Engineering Structures provides a forum for a broad blend of scientific and technical papers to reflect the evolving needs of the structural engineering and structural mechanics communities. Particularly welcome are contributions dealing with applications of structural engineering and mechanics principles in all areas of technology. The journal aspires to a broad and integrated coverage of the effects of dynamic loadings and of the modelling techniques whereby the structural response to these loadings may be computed.

  • Research in Structural Engineering and Mechanics in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering includes theoretical, computational and experimental investigations in areas such as fiber reinforced polymer composites, smart reinforced concrete buildings, seismic response of deteriorated reinforced concrete bridge components, strength and stability design of steel structures, structural damage identification and quantification, smart materials and earthquake resistant design of buildings and bridges.
