In Italy, between Rome and Florence, scientists found fossils in limestone rocks that date back to when the dinosaurs died out. Near these rocks is a layer of clay containing high levels of iridium. Iridium is a very rare metal and not common in rock samples found on Earth. However, it is common in meteorites. In 50 different sites around the world, scientists found iridium in this layer of clay.
Q: Why didn't all plants and animals die when the dinosaurs died?
A: Great question! Most animals and plants did die out with dinosaurs, just as they did about five other times when there were huge disasters in the billions of years of earth history. That's not very often, so I wouldn't worry about it happening while we are around. We don't know why any of this happened, so we don't know why it didn't destroy all living things. There was probably a big weather change, from volcanoes or asteroids changing the climate. Some animals and plants that were tough, or little, could survive even these big changes in weather. I'm just glad all plants and animals didn't die out with the dinosaurs, or there would be no us. (Don Lessem)
Death is a difficult thing for any person to understand, of any age. When Dinosaurs Die is a dinosaur themed book, which keeps kids engaged from the very beginning. The only difference is that these dinosaurs are not roaring and storming the earth, and they don’t look much like the dinos that you might find in your child’s science books. This book deals with the theme of death, and takes kids through the process of understanding death as well as understanding what it means to be alive.
When somebody dies in your family or in the life of your child, it can be very difficult for them to understand. When Dinosaurs Die helps kids to take a perspective other than that of their parent or teacher. It discusses what to do when someone dies, the fact that it is okay to be sad, and a way to remember the person who they lost.
|When Dinosaurs Die: Compared with a lot of children’s books on death, this book won’t tell a tale. Rather, it deals with children’s worries and fascination head-on, plus in a mostly secular style, through responding to a few standard questions. Alternative questions address feelings, and there is a portion regarding death traditions This forthright method helps make the topic appear much less unfamiliar and supplies youngsters with a lot to consider as well as speak about with their mother and father.|
